Female flowers slightly larger than the male ones, with sterile stamens ± developed; ovary subglobose, immersed in the disk, 2–3(4)-locular; styles 2–3, short, lateral; stigmas capitate.
Flowers unisexual (sometimes bisexual?), shortly pedicellate, in axillary or terminal spike-like inflorescences (the female ones sometimes reduced), simple or with a few basal branches.
Male flowers: stamens (8–10) 15–25(30) with subulate filaments; anthers oblong, dorsifixed; disk patelliform; pistillode absent.
Drupe obovoid-subglobose with fleshy mesocarp; endocarp thick, bony, 3-operculate at the apex, opercules ovate.
Leaves alternate, imparipinnate, crowded at the apex of the branchlets, petiolate; leaflets petiolulate.
Seeds 2–3, obclavate, compressed, with papyraceous brownish testa; cotyledons plano-convex.
Sepals and petals 4–5, imbricate.
Small or medium-sized trees.
