Characteristics

Stem erect, sparsely branched in lower part, (1.5–) 5–15 (–20) cm high. Basal leaves absent. Stem leaves 3 or 4 pairs, sessile, usually broadly ovate, 2–6 mm long, obtuse. Inflorescence a 3-or 4-branched dichasium; bracts resembling leaves but usually larger; pedicels 1.5–2.5 cm long below, absent above. Flowers 4-merous, 3–5 mm long. Calyx lobes oblong, 2.5–5 mm long, obtuse and spreading at apex, broadly membranous at margins. Corolla creamy white; tube narrowly urceolate, 3–4 mm long; lobes broadly ovate to orbicular, spreading, c. 2 mm long. Stamens 4; anthers c. 0.5 mm long. Ovary c. 2 mm long; style c. 1 mm long; stigmas c. 1 mm long. Capsule obovoid, to c. 4 mm long. Seeds c. 0.5 mm diam., pale greyish yellow, opaque.
