Slender, erect, annual herbs 5-20 cm high, simple or branched from the base; stems sometimes glandular or glandular-denticulate in the lower part. Leaves up to 1 cm long and 3 mm broad, linear-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, acute or acuminate, the lower ones reduced and often scale-like. Inflorescence a lax, 1-few-flowered cyme; bracts foliaceous, lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, acuminate. Calyx of 5 segments, each 5.5-9 mm long, 1-2.25 mm broad, lanceolate to oblong-elliptic, acuminate, the sides hyaline, joined for up to 3 mm, with a keelwing 0.5-1.75 mm broad, broadest near the base. Corolla yellow; tube 5-6 mm long; lobes 5.5-8 mm long, 2.25-4 mm broad, ovate or broadly ovate, subacute or rounded, clawed. Filaments 1.3-2.75 mm long, inserted in the corolla-sinuses; anthers 1.5-2.5 mm long, each with a very small sessile apical gland or sometimes apparently eglandular. Style and stigma 5-7 mm long, without a stigmatic swelling or with a large swelling below the middle; stigma large, 2-lobed with very broad lobes.
Annual herb, 0.05-0.20 m high, slender to filiform; base unbranched or branched, sometimes glandular or glandular-denticulate. Leaves up to 10 x 3 mm, linear-to ovate-lanceolate, lower reduced and scale-like. Flowers in 1-few-flowered, lax cymes, bracteate. Calyx: segments 5, lanceolate, margins hyaline; tube short, with keel wing. Corolla yellow; tube 5-6 mm long, clawed. Stamens inserted in corolla sinuses; anthers with apical glands or apparently eglandular. Styles with or without large swelling below middle; stigma with 2 broad lobes; ovary ovoid. Fruit an ovoid capsule.
Annual herb, 50-200 mm high. Stems slender, erect. Leaves with lower ones reduced, in relatively few pairs, internodes prominent; blade linear, up to 10 x 3 mm. Flowers: in lax 1-few-flowered cymes; filaments inserted in corolla sinuses; anthers with a very small sessile apical gland or sometimes apparently eglandular; style without stigmatic swelling or with large swelling below middle, style and stigma 5-7 mm long; calyx winged; corolla with tube 5-6 mm long, yellow; Feb.-May.
Calyx with a very short tube; lobes 5, 5–7 (9) x 1–2.25 mm., ovate-lanceolate to lanceolate, acuminate at the apex, winged on the keel, with hyaline margins; wing 0.4–0.5 (0.75) mm. broad near the base of the calyx.

Stamens 1.3–2.75 mm. long, inserted in the corolla-sinuses; anthers 1.25–1.5 (2.5) mm. with or without a small apical, sessile gland.
