Erect, much-branched, annual herb, 0.04-0.15 m high. Leaves 6-14 x 3-4 mm, ovate-lanceolate to narrowly elliptic, lower reduced, scale-like. Flowers in many-flowered, dense or subdense cymes, bracteate. Calyx: segments 5, lanceolate to ovate; tube 6.5-9.0 mm long, often mucronate, keeled. Corolla yellow; tube 4.5-8.0 x 3-5 mm, sometimes apiculate. Stamens inserted immediately to 0.75 mm below corolla sinuses; anthers with small, stipitate, apical glands. Style with large, stigmatic swelling below middle; stigma with 2 broad lobes. Flowering time late summer and winter. Fruit a capsule.
