Characteristics

Loosely tufted perennial; culms 50–100 cm. high, the nodes glabrous.. Leaf-blades linear, 10–30 cm. long, 2–6 mm. wide, not plicate, setaceously acuminate.. Panicle narrowly oblong to narrowly ovate, 15–30 cm. long, primary branches flexuous, the spikelets borne on secondary branches, these puberulous; bristles 3–20 mm. long.. Spikelets narrowly ovate-elliptic, 3–3.5 mm. long, acute; glumes acute, the lower 1/3–1/2, the upper 2/3–3/4 the length of the spikelet; lower floret ♂, its lemma not or scarcely sulcate; upper lemma smooth above, indistinctly rugose below.
