Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Setaria

Characteristics

Weak-stemmed annual; culms 20–80 cm. high.. Leaf-blades broadly linear to narrowly lanceolate, 5–30 cm. long, 3–11 mm. wide, at least the lower blades falsely petiolate and sagittate, the lobes 2–30 mm. long.. Panicle narrowly oblong to ovate, 3–15 cm. long, the spikelets secund along scaberulous raceme-like primary branches; bristles 2–15 mm. long.. Spikelets suborbicular, 2 mm. long, laterally compressed; lower glume 1/3, the upper 1/2 as long as the spikelet; lower floret male or barren, the lemma not grooved, its palea ± reduced; upper lemma conspicuously gibbous, keeled, rugose.. More
Loosely tufted, slender annual 120-800 mm high; culm node glabrous. Leaf blade 50-300 x (3)5-11 (-18) mm, broadly linear to narrowly lanceolate, at least lower ones pseudopetiolate, base sagittate with lobes minute or to 30 mm long or absent (variable on same plant). Inflorescence open, spikelets secund; each spikelet subtended by a solitary bristle 4-10 mm long, scabrid, green flushed purple. Spikelet 2 x 1-2 mm, laterally compressed; lower glume 3-nerved; lower lemma grooved in middle; upper lemma conspicuously gibbous, keeled, finely and densely rugose though apex often smooth.
Slender annual, loosely tufted, up to 0.8 m high. Leaf blades 50-300 mm long, (3-)5-11(-18) mm wide, leaf blades (at least lower ones) pseudopetiolate, bases sagittate with lobes 2-30 mm long. Culm nodes glabrous. Spikelets 2 mm long, 1-2 mm wide. Panicle open, racemes secund; bristles solitary; lower glume 3-nerved; lower lemma rugose.
Panicle 5–15 cm. long, narrowly oblong to ovate, the spikelets secund along scaberulous raceme-like primary branches; bristles 2–15 mm. long.
