Panicle narrowly lanceolate, 25–50 cm. long, erect, pagoda-like, with short stiff spreading branches and puberulous rhachis; bristles 3–15 mm. long.. Spikelets ovate, 3–3.5 mm. long, pallid, acute; lower glume 1/4–1/3, the upper 1/2–2/3 the length of the spikelet; lower floret sterile, its lemma thinly coriaceous, as long as or longer than the upper lemma, with a well-developed palea; upper lemma smooth.
