Characteristics

Stem 1-1.33 ft. high, simple, glabrous or with a few hairs about the uppermost nodes; leaves ascending or slightly spreading, 2-3.25 in. long, 0.33-0.5 lin. broad, linear-filiform, glabrous, minutely and adpressedly ciliate-denticulate; umbels 2-3, lateral and terminal, apparently nodding, 6-15-flowered; peduncles 0.5-1.25 in. long; pedicels 5-9 lin. long, thinly puberulous along one side; bracts 1.25-2.5 lin. long, subulate, minutely ciliate; sepals 1.5-1.75 lin. long, lanceolate, subulate-acuminate from the margins being infolded, with a very few hairs on the back or margins; corolla-tube 1-1.25 lin. long, subglobose-campanulate, densely bearded at the mouth and throat, with the upper hairs converging to the centre and the lower deflexed, otherwise glabrous; lobes 1-1.5 lin. long, 0.75-1 lin. broad, ovate or oblong-ovate, subacute, quite glabrous on both sides; corona-lobes 0.75-1.33 lin. long, triangular-ovate, with a minute tooth on each side near the base, acuminate at the apex into subulate or filiform points connivent above the anthers, with erect or recurving tips.

Perennial, geophytic herb, stems usually unbranched, 300-410 mm high. Leaves linear-filiform, 50-85 x 0.5-1.1 mm, glabrous, apex acute, margins minutely ciliate-denticulate. Inflorescences 6-15-flowered umbels; peduncles 12-32 mm long. Flowers subglobose-campanulate; tube 2.0-2.6 x 2.8 mm, constricted at mouth, lower surface glabrous, densely bearded in mouth and throat with upper hairs converging to the center, lowers hairs deflexed; lobes oblong-ovate, 2.0-3.1 x 1.5-2.1 mm, both surfaces glabrous. Corona: lobes triangular-ovate with a minute tooth on either side at base, apex subulate or filiform, connivent over style apex with erect apex.
