Characteristics

Slender epiphytic or terrestrial herbs up to 6 dm. tall. Leaves 5.5-13 cm. long and 2-5 cm. broad, elliptic-lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, often vernicose above; sheaths neither pubescent nor verruculose. Inflorescence 1-flowered; the flowers white or (with age?) yellowish, the lip with red maculations. Sepals 4-5 cm. long and 0.8-1.2 cm. broad, elliptic-lanceolate to elliptic-oblong, acute. Petals 3.5-4.5 cm. long and 1.2-1.4 cm. broad, similar to the sepals or broader. Lip 4-5 cm. long and 3-4 cm. broad, cuneate-flabellate or obovate, sub-trilobate, the lobes rounded, apical part of the lip dentate-lacerate or crisped; disc with a tricornute callus at the base and pubescent longitudinally within. Column about 2 cm. long, with 2 acinaciform, terminal stelidia or auricles.
