Characteristics

A dainty glabrous perennial herb with a slender rhizome. Flowering stems up to 30 cm, solitary, slender, simple, with 2 or 3 reduced leaves. Radical leaves up to c. 15 x 1.5 cm, lanceolate-oblong, nearly entire, sinuate-dentate or runcinate-pinnatifid, acute to acuminate, green above, glaucous below, stem leaves similar or uppermost lanceolate, amplexicaul, with acute basal auricles. Heads 1 or 2, long and narrow, about 13 x 4 mm, involucre white-woolly at the base, otherwise glabrous. Flowers yellow. Achenes c. 4.5 mm long, flattened, tapering slightly and equally at both ends, 1-3-ribbed on each face, margins thickened, smooth. Pappus of setae and fine down-like hairs intermixed.
