Characteristics

Calyx 3.5–4.5 mm. long, subglabrous to minutely scabrid without, subglabrous within, not densely woolly, lobes c. 1.25 mm. long, broadly triangular, slightly to barely tomentose at margin, sparsely to more or less densely orange to black glandular-punctate when dried.

Leaves up to 4 cm. long, opposite to almost opposite, occasionally in whorls of 3, usually trifid particularly below with narrowly linear lobes, becoming entire above, bracteate within inflorescence, of ten subtending small axillary leafy branches.
Annual, erect to slightly erect, scabrid herb, 30–60 cm. tall; stems simple to much branched especially near base, obscurely angled, branches spreading to slightly erect, scabrid, frequently with minute retrorse bristly hairs.
Capsule 3.5–5 mm. long, c. 3 mm. in diam., broadly cylindric-ellipsoid, glabrous or sparsely reddish glandular-punctate when dried.
Inflorescence loose, terminal, racemose; flowers pedicellate, yellow or white with dark purple centre, opposite.
Bracteoles 3–4 x 0.4–0.6 mm., narrowly linear to linear-lanceolate, scabrid, arising towards apex of pedicel.
Fertile anther thecae c. 2 mm. long cylindric-ellipsoid.
Corolla 6.5–7 mm. long, limb 8–10 mm. in diam.
Pedicels 5–9 mm. long, slender, scabrid.
