Characteristics

Erect, robust perennial or undershrub to 1 m tall; stem to 6 mm in diam. at base, branched or occasionally simple, pubescent to long-pilose or glabrescent, branches woody, ascending. Leaves opposite to subverticillate, 15-40 mm long, undivided to trifid or pentafid often bearing smaller leaves in their axils, simple leaves or segments 1-1.5 mm wide, margins somewhat thickened, pilose to shortly pubescent, slightly scabrid. Inflorescence 5-20 cm long, loosely spicate or racemose with clearly defined internodes, simple to much branched; flowers many, pink, mauve to purple, sessile or pedicellate. Pedicels 0-6.5 mm long. Bracteoles 6.5-11 mm long, narrowly linear, acute, villous. Calyx 6-15 x 4-11 mm, densely lanate-tomentose within and without; lobes 3-13.5 mm long, narrowly triangular. Corolla limb 15-22 mm in diam. Fertile anther thecae 3.5-4.25 mm long, cylindric. Capsule 5-5.5 x 3.8-5 mm, glabrous, subglobose to broadly ovoid.
