Characteristics

Robust herb with ± erect main stem. Plant scabridulous to pubescent and not normally lanate in young parts. Peduncles up to c. 6 cm long, longer and not so stout as in subspecies rogersii. Glomerule depressed globose to distinctly conic-ovoid; basal bracts lanceolate-ovate, visible but scarcely forming a basal involucre and covering only the lower rows of capitula, up to 5 mm long but often shorter. Receptacle globose to obovoid.
