Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Sporobolus

Characteristics

Mat-forming perennial, 200-360 mm high; rhizomatous. Leaf blade 5-12 x 1 mm; ligule a fringed membrane or a fringe of hairs. Inflorescence a spike-like panicle, 25-30 mm wide, central axis usually visible; branches not whorled. Spikelets 2.0-2.5 mm long, laterally compressed, awnless, glabrous, disarticulating above glumes; glumes 1-nerved, pale yellow. Floret 1; lemma similar in texture to glumes, membranous, often shining, 1-3-nerved. Flowering time Feb.-Apr.

Mat-forming perennial 200-360 mm high; rhizomatous. Leaf blade 5-12 x 1 mm. Inflorescence 25-30 mm wide, spike-like, spikelets not clustered densely enough to hide central axis. Spikelet 2.0-2.5 mm long; glumes and lemmas membranous, pale yellow; lower glume 1/3 as long as spikelet; upper glume 2/3 as long as spikelet; lemma ovate-elliptic, apex obtuse; anther 0.7-1.0 mm long.
Rhizomatous, mat-forming perennial; culms up to 30 cm tall, erect or geniculately ascending, unbranched; basal leaf sheaths chartaceous to subcoriaceous, glabrous, terete, persistent; leaf laminas 1–7 cm long, 1–1.5 mm in diameter, stiff, green or somewhat glaucous, tightly involute, glabrous, the margins subcartilaginous, pungent at the apex.
Spikelets 1.9–2.5 mm long, pallid; glumes unequal, ovate-elliptic, hyaline, glabrous, obtuse at the apex, the inferior 1/3 the length of the spikelet, nerveless, the superior 2/3 the length of the spikelet 0–1-nerved; lemma as long as the spikelet, hyaline, 3-nerved, ovate-elliptic, obtuse at the apex; anthers 3, 0.8–1.4 mm long.
Perennial; up to 0.36 m high; mat-forming; rhizomatous. Leaf blades 5-12 x 1 mm. Flowers: inflorescence 25-30 mm wide; spike-like; spikelets not densely clustered to hide central axis; spikelets 2.0-2.5 mm long; upper glume 2/3 as long as spikelet; glumes and lemmas membranous; pale yellow.
Mat-forming perennial, rhizomatous, up to 360 mm tall. Leaf blades 5-12 mm long, 1 mm wide. Spikelets 2.0-2.5 mm long. Inflorescence 25-30 mm wide, spike-like but spikelets not densely clustered to hide central axis; glumes and lemmas membranous, pale yellow.
Panicle 3.5–7.5 cm long, narrowly oblong, contracted but not dense; primary branches not in whorls, subdichotomously branched, the branches and pedicels ascending, capillary, smooth, eglandular, without an obvious pulvinus in the axils, these quite glabrous.
Grain c. 1.5 mm long, obovate-elliptic.
