Coarse tussocky perennial; culms 90–200 cm. high.. Leaf-blades flat, up to 120 cm. long, 8 mm. wide, harsh, stiff.. Panicle linear to narrowly lanceolate, 30–40 cm. long, up to 5 cm. wide, diffuse, branchlets and pedicels capillary, the lateral spikelets often solitary but those at the tip of the branchlets borne in contiguous pairs.. Spikelets 1.5–1.9 mm. long, dark green; glumes narrowly ovate, subequal, 1/2–2/3 the length of the spikelet, both hyaline, the lower 0.7–1.1 mm. long, the upper 1–1.2 mm. long, acute; anthers 3, 0.7–0.8 mm. long.. Grain ellipsoid, 0.8 mm. long.
