Stamen filaments attached at base of corolla lobes, erect and filiform below, upper part sometimes slightly thickened and inrolled at anthesis, with a small tooth on front of the anther; anthers linear, 4-thecous, truncate.
Corolla straight to bent in bud, 5-merous, with a short tube, yellow to red, banded green or white; lobes linear-oblanceolate, often somewhat coherent, but without a marked V-split in the tube, reflexed about the middle.
Flowers 2–6 in shortly pedunculate axillary umbels; bract shortly cupular, with a small limb, gibbous or spurred dorsally.
Leaves subopposite, shortly petiolate; nerves few, spreading to strongly ascending, sometimes obscure.
Calyx cupular to shortly tubular, split by expanding corolla.
Small shrubs with a single haustorial connection, glabrous.
Style filiform; stigma capitate.
Berry obovoid, not seen mature.
