Perennial herb, up to 1.3 m high. Stems erect or ascending, stout; densely pubescent. Leaves petiolate; blade broadly ovate, 80-110 x 50-70 mm, base deeply cordate, apex acute, margins finely and regularly crenate, lower surface densely, softly hairy. Flowers: inflorescence with spaced verticils, verticils 6-flowered, rachis densely glandular-pubescent; calyx 7 mm long, teeth broad-based, distinctly spreading, 3 mm long, deltoid-subulate and spine-tipped, hispidulous and freely gland dotted; corolla with tube 6-7 mm long, upper and lower lip 6 mm long, white; Jan.-Mar.
