Characteristics

Annual (perennial) herb to 50 cm tall, erect, hairy; hairs irregularly branched to stellate. Basal leaves to 5, sometimes 10 cm long, pinnatifid, the lobes narrowly obovate to linear, dentate to entire; cauline leaves to 10 cm long, pinnatisect or trisect to entire and filiform. Inflorescence an elongated raceme. Sepals 3–6 mm long, laterals strongly saccate. Petals 6–13 mm long, chocolate-brown to olive-green; claw linear, lamina oblong. Stigma capitate, slightly elongated. Silicula 3.5–7.5 mm long, usually 2–4 mm wide, linear-terete to obovoid; pedicels erect to spreading, to 5 mm long. Seeds ovoid to oblong, 0.8–1.5 mm long, compressed, 8–14 per locule, rarely more.
