Characteristics

Plants pale to yellow-green, in loose or dense, dull mats. Stems complanate to subjulaceous, to 3 cm long, 1-2 mm wide, simple or irregularly and sparingly branched. Leaves 1.0-2.5 mm long, 0.4-1.2 mm wide, oblong-ovate to nearly Ungulate, symmetric, abruptly acute to obtuse, sometimes apiculate; margins plane, entire or serrulate near apex; costa stout, extending 2/3-3/4 the leaf length, bulging on dorsal leaf surface; cells unipapillose on both surfaces of lumina, sometimes smooth, upper cells rhomboidal, 14-38 µm long, 7-9 µm wide; alar cells quadrate, rectangular or transversely elongate, collenchymatous, 9-19 µm long, 9-14 µm wide, often many on one side of costa and few on other, extending over adaxial surface of costa. Autoicous. Setae orange to reddish brown, straight to somewhat flexuose, 0.6-1.2 cm long; capsules cernuous or rarely erect, orange to brown, 0.7-1.8 mm long, ellipsoidal to ovoid, contracted below mouth when dry; annulus present, persistent; opercula 0.5-0.7 mm long. Spores 12-24 µm in diameter.

Leaves 1-2.5 × 0.4-1.2 mm; costa bulging abaxially; alar cells 9-19 × 9-14 µm, many on one side of costa and few on other; distal laminal cells 14-38 × 7-9 µm.
