Flowers: inflorescence contracted; branches densely hairy; hairs longer and thicker on swollen part just below spikelet; spikelets up to 14 mm long; including awns; glumes firm; acute; upper glume 7-9 mm long; lemma articulation in ± middle of lemma; column short and stout; all 3 awns plumose down to branching point and just below on column; callus 1.5-2.0 mm long; narrow; very short pungent apex.

Spikelet to 14 mm long (including awns); glumes firm, acute; upper glume 7-9 mm long; lemma articulation about middle of lemma; column short, stout; all three awns plumose down to branching point and just below on column; callus 1.5-2.0 mm long, narrow, apex very short, pungent; anther 3.3-3.5 mm long.
