Characteristics

Perennial, rosulate. Leaves 2-6, 80-150(-300) x c. 30-80 mm, more or less ovate-elliptic or oblong or oblong-lanceolate, the midrib often slightly curved, nearly sessile at first but developing a petiole later, upper surface pilose with more or less loosely appressed hairs, underside pilose especially on the ascending veins. Inflorescences arising near the base of the petiole, 4 8-20-flowered, more or less one-sided, that is the flowers seeming to arise in lateral pairs, shortly pilose with spreading glandular and eglandular hairs; peduncles up to 150 mm; bracts c. 4 x 0.75 mm, linear; pedicels c. 10 mm. Calyx segments with glandular and eglandular hairs. Corolla violet blue with either 2 yellow spots or 2 divergent lines joining below into a single bar, 25-55 mm long; lobes rounded. Ovary with short spreading glandular and eglandular hairs; style glandular, dorsoventrally compressed at the top; stigma stomatomorphic, the lower lip somewhat the larger.
