Characteristics

Corolla c. 25–35 mm. long, glandular-pubescent outside, the roof of the tube bearded with glandular and eglandular hairs, the floor with minute unicellular hairs, magenta-pink above (colour variable?), paler below, each lobe with three magenta-pink stripes that extend down inside the tube in lines of dots, the floor of the tube profusely spotted magenta-pink; tube funnel-shaped, slightly curved, floor conspicuously grooved, c. 18–25 mm. long, 3–4 mm. in diam. in lower half, widening to 6–7 mm. across mouth; limb oblique, upper lip of 2 suborbicular to elliptic-oblong lobes 5–6 mm. long, lower lip 10–12 mm. long, lobes elliptic-oblong, 6–9 × 5–7 mm.

Leaves several, loosely associated in a tuft, young ones sessile, the flowering ones developing a conspicuous stalk (petiolode) up to c. 35 mm. long, lamina linear-oblong to lanceolate, 5–15 × 1–5 cm., green above, purple-red below, margin coarsely crenate-dentate, apex obtuse, base cuneate.
Ovary c. 6 mm. long, pubescent with glandular and eglandular hairs; style c. 10 mm. long with similar indumentum, dorsoventrally compressed, the tip bent over; stigma stomatomorphic, papillose.
Stamens arising in middle third of corolla tube, filaments 5–6 mm. long, glandular above; anther lobes 1 mm. long, blue-black; staminodes conspicuous.
Perennial, all parts excluding corolla pilose with glandular and eglandular hairs.
Inflorescences 1 or 2 at junction of lamina and stalk, few-flowered.
Capsule 15–18 mm. long, crowned with persistent style.
Seeds 0.4–0.5 mm. long, reticulate.
Peduncles up to 45 mm. long.
Pedicels up to 22 mm. long.
Bracts inconspicuous.
