Characteristics

Perennial. Leaves: 1 new leaf per annum, developing from the base of, and superimposed upon, the flowering leaf, flowering leaf often cordate, up to 240 x 175 mm, margin crenate, both surfaces pale green or occasion-ally purplish below, pilose. Inflorescences from base of midrib, up to c.20-flowered. Peduncles up to 100 mm long; pedicels c. 6 mm long, both pilose. Calyx campanulate, tube c. 5 mm long, lobes 5, deltoid, 5 x 4.5mm. Corolla c. 45 mm long, pilose with glandular and eglandular hairs outside, sparsely pubescent inside; tube greenish flushed violet, c. 18 mm long, 3 mm in diam., subcylindric, abruptly deflexed then directed for-wards, strongly compressed laterally in upper half; limb flat, oblique, more conspicuous than the tube, pale to medium violet, fading to white in the throat, yellow blotch in throat, 2 raised keels from base of anterior lobes to throat; upper lip of 2 suborbicular lobes, c. 14 x 12 mm, lower lip c. 23 mm long, 33 mm broad, lobes suborbicular, 13 x 14.5 mm. Stamens arising halfway up corolla tube, filaments 2 mm long, pubescent; anther lobes 1.5 mm long, white. Ovary 5 mm long, appressed-pubescent; style terete, 2.5 mm long, pubescent; stigma conical, translucent. Capsule 28-53(40 ± 5) mm long, 2 mm in diam. Seeds 0.5-0.6 mm long, reticulate.
