Characteristics

Corolla c. 30–40 mm.long, white, the tube usually flushed deep pink above, the two upper lobes flushed pink outside, each with 3 magenta-pink stripes inside, the median stripe extending briefly into tube, sometimes broken into dots, the three lower lobes each with a median magenta-pink stripe, irregular magenta-pink spots on the palate and inside the tube, the roof of the tube immaculate, bearded with long multicellular hairs and shorter gland-tipped ones, some minute unicellular clavate hairs on the floor of the tube; tube narrowly funnel-shaped, slightly curved, the floor conspicuously grooved, c. 20–25 mm. long, c. 3 mm. in diam. in lower half, widening above to 6–7 mm. across mouth; limb oblique, upper lip of 2 suborbicular lobes, 6×6 mm., lower lip 9–12 mm. long, lobes oblong, 6–8 × 5–6 mm.

Ovary c. 13–15 mm. long, densely pubescent with spreading, eglandular hairs; style c. 8 mm. long, similarly pubescent, dorsoventrally compressed, the apex bent over; stigma white, papillose, stomatomorphic.
Stamens arising in middle third of corolla tube, filaments c. 6 mm. long, twisted, white, glandular above; anther lobes 1 mm. long, blue-black; staminodes conspicuous, c. 4 mm. long.
Leaf solitary, up to about 15×12 cm., often much smaller, dark green above, sometimes purple below, margin crenate, base cordate to cuneate.
Monocarpic, all parts pubescent with spreading hairs, a few gland-tipped hairs on the leaf below.
Calyx divided to the base into 5 linear segments 5–9×1 mm., green tinted reddish-brown at base.
Inflorescences 2 or 3 from base of midrib, few-flowered.
Bracts small, linear, occasionally foliaceous.
Capsule 25–50 × c. 2 mm., apiculate.
Seeds 0.3–0.4 mm. long, reticulate.
Peduncles up to c. 10 cm. long.
Pedicels 15–30 mm. long.
