Characteristics

Perennial, rosulate, with a short, stout axis vertical to the rosette. Leaves oblong or strap-shaped, up to 300 x 70 mm, green above, some-times reddish-purple below, margin crenate, base cuneate, decurrent on petiole, petiole up to 70 mm, 6 mm diam., green or reddish-brown, pilose, petiolode up to 15 mm long, reddish-brown. Inflorescences arising at the top of the petiolode, usually 1-2-, occasionally up to 6-flowered; peduncle up to 150 mm, reddish-brown to green, pilose with glandular and eglandular hairs; bracts linear, 3 x 1 mm, greenish-brown, pilose; pedicel 15 mm. Calyx segments linear, 5 x 1 mm, greenish-brown, pilose. Corolla c. 50 mm long; tube very narrowly infundibuliform, greenish-white, glandular outside, glabrous inside, 35 mm long, 5 mm in diam. at base, mouth9 mm across and somewhat compressed dorsoventrally, throat and floor of the tube pale green, immaculate; upper lobes elliptic-oblong, 13.5 x 12mm, very pale violet, pilose with glandular and eglandular hairs inside and usually with deep violet solid lines extending into the tube, paler and glabrous outside; lower lip c. 15 mm long; lobes elliptic, 13 x 11 mm, very pale violet, sparsely glandular inside and outside, anterior lobe characteristically with deep violet broken lines, laterals with or without broken lines inside. Stamens arising two-thirds up corolla tube; filaments8 mm long, white, curved apically with a small outgrowth or shoulder on the curve, sparsely glandular; anther lobes 2 mm long, white; posterior staminode minute, laterals 1 mm, white, obscurely bifid. Ovary 20 mm, green, appressed-pubescent; style 13 mm, white, glandular-pilose; stigma unequally bilobed, white. Capsule 62-128(104 ± 15) mm, 1.5 mm diam. Seeds 0.7-1 mm long, reticulate.
