Characteristics

Corolla (20) 25–35 mm. long, medium violet with 2 darker patches at sides of mouth, thinly pubescent with short erect hairs; tube 12–22 mm. long, 2–3.5 mm. in diam. and curved about mid-way, mouth compressed between the upper lobes so that the opening is shaped like an inverted V, 6–8 mm. wide between lateral sinuses; upper lobes erect, c. 5 × 6 mm., divergent or somewhat divaricate; lower lip 10–14 mm. long, 15–20 mm. broad, more or less porrect, lateral lobes c. 6 × 7 mm., rounded, median lobe 6–7 × 6–9 mm.

Leaf solitary, sessile, commonly about 150 × 120 mm. but can be much smaller and also much larger and can be proportionately much narrower (250 × 65 mm.), more or less densely pubescent on both surfaces, the indumentum usually erect in living plant.
Inflorescences 1 to about 6, rather densely clad with short spreading eglandular hairs, occasionally with a few glandular ones on the pedicels; peduncle of the primary one often c. 100 mm. long.
Stamens arising from a little above half way to a little above two thirds up the corolla tube; filaments 2–2.5 mm., glandular towards top; anther lobe 0.75–1 mm.
Ovary 7–9 mm. long, densely clad with short spreading eglandular hairs, passing into the 1.5–2 mm. long style; stigma capitate, stomatomorphic.
Calyx segments varying from (2) 3–5 (6) mm., linear-lanceolate, pubescent.
Capsules slender, 40–60 mm. × 1.5 mm., shortly pubescent.
Seeds 0.5–0.6 mm. long, reticulate.
Bracts linear, 2–3 mm., pubescent.
