Characteristics

Rosulate, perennial, with a horizontal rhizome. Leaves numerous, sub-erect, up to 350 x 100 mm, apex obtuse, base cuneate, decurrent on petiole up to 40 mm long, both upper and lower surfaces green, pilose, petiolode up to 20 mm long. Inflorescences at junction of petiolode and petiole, 1-12-flowered. Peduncles up to 300 mm; pedicels 5-18 mm long, both pilose with glandular and eglandular hairs. Bracts linear, 3 x 1 mm. Calyx divided to the base into 5 linear segments, c. 5 x 1 mm. Corolla32-45 mm long, varying from whitish to pale violet, white or yellowish in the throat, the median vein in all 5 lobes deeper violet, the colour fainter in the upper lobes, glandular-pilose outside, glandular-pubescence inside confined to the limb; tube cylindric, c. 15-20 mm long, c. 3 mm diam., bulbous at the base, strongly curved, laterally compressed in the mouth; limb more conspicuous than the tube, strongly oblique, the upper lip of 2 oblong to suborbicular lobes, 7-12 x 6-12 mm, lower lip c. 17-2  long, 24-36 mm broad, lobes oblong to suborbicular, 11-15 x 6-13mm. Stamens arising half-way up corolla tube, filaments 3 mm long, white, glabrous, anther lobes 1 mm long, white. Ovary 7-9 mm long, appressed-pubescent, eglandular; style terete, 2.5 mm long; stigma bilobed, the lobes held laterally. Capsule 33-60(43 ± 5) mm long, 2.5 mm in diam. Seeds 0.5-0.6 mm long, reticulate.
