Characteristics

Perennial. Leaves 1-5, suberect and loosely associated in a tuft, young ones sessile, the flowering ones developing a conspicuous stalk (petiolode)up to 45 mm long, lamina up to 100 x 35 mm, margin coarsely crenate-dentate, base cuneate, green above, veins below sometimes tinted purple, both surfaces pilose with glandular and eglandular hairs. Inflorescences2 or 3 at apex of stalk, c. 2-10-flowered. Peduncles up to 60 mm long; pedicels c. 10-30 mm long, both glandular with occasional acute hairs. Bracts linear-lanceolate, up to 5 x 1 mm. Calyx divided to the base into5 linear-lanceolate segments, 6 x 1 mm, green, glandular. Corolla c.16-22 mm long, white with 2 violet streaks on lower lip and a yellow stripe, spotted violet-brown, from the base of the lower lip along the floor of the tube, glandular-pilose outside, glabrous inside except for 2bands of unicellular hairs on the floor of the tube and a few on the roof; tube subcylindric, straight, c. 8-10 mm long, 3 mm in diam., 3-4 mm across mouth; limb almost straight, upper lip of 2 obovate lobes, 4-6 x 4-5 mm, lower lip porrect, c. 7-11 mm long, lobes suborbicular, 4-6 x 4-6mm. Stamens arising in middle third of corolla tube, filaments 4-5 mm long, curved and slightly thickened below the anthers, white, glabrous; anther lobes 1 mm long, white; staminodes conspicuous, 2.5 mm long. Ovary 3 mm long, glandular; style 5 mm long, slightly dorsoventrally compressed, bent over at the tip, glandular below; stigma of 2 almost equal papillose lips, but offset upon the style so that the anticous lip projects and the stigma is asymmetrical in profile. Capsule 11-15(14 ± 1) mm long, 2.5 mm in diam., prominently apiculate. Seeds 0.4-0.5 mm long, reticulate.
