Characteristics

Monocarpic. Leaf 1, sometimes with a conspicuous stalk, blade up to 640 x 400 mm, pilose, base cordate, margin crenate. Inflorescences many-flowered but only 1 or 2 flowers open together. Peduncles up to 450 mm; pedicels c. 10 mm, both pilose. Calyx divided to the base into 5 linear segments, 4-5 x 1 mm. Corolla 30-55 mm long, scabridulous outside, glabrous inside, but glandular-pubescent on limb; tube narrowly cylindric, slightly curved, 18-35 mm long, 3-5 mm in diam., 7-15 mm across mouth between lateral sinuses, whitish suffused pale violet above; limb medium violet with 2 deeper violet blotches in throat flanking a white stripe on the floor of the tube; upper lip of 2 suborbicular lobes, 5-10 x 5-10 mm, lower lip 9-20 mm long, 16-32 mm across, lobes suborbicular, 5-11 x 5-8mm. Stamens arising in upper third of corolla tube, filaments 5-7 mm long, white, glabrous; anther lobes 1.5 mm long, white, glandular. Ovary11-18 mm long, appressed pubescent, eglandular; style terete, 6-12 mm long, pubescent; stigma stomatomorphic. Capsule 60-105 mm long, 1.5-  in diameter. Seeds 0.8-0.9 mm long, reticulate.
