Characteristics

Perennial, rosulate, with a short, stout axis vertical to the rosette-Leaves numerous, prostrate, up to 300 x 100 mm, margin crenate, base cuneate, decurrent on the short petiole, light green, both upper and lower surfaces pilose with long glandular and/eglandular hairs, glandular hairs predominating on the lower surface. Inflorescences arising at junction of short petiolode and petiole, 2-12-flowered. Peduncles up to 200 mm long; pedicels 7-10 mm long, both green becoming purplish-brown with age glandular-pilose with occasional acute hairs. Bracts elliptic, up to 7 x 2 mm. Calyx divided to the base into 5 lanceolate segments, 5 x 1 mm, slightly accrescent with age and becoming purplish-brown, glandular-pilose. Corolla c. 40-53 mm long, glandular-pilose outside, glabrous in-side; tube cylindric, widening upwards, slightly curved, 20-30 mm long, base 4.5 mm in diam., c. 8-10 mm across mouth, creamy white on the lower side, pale violet on upper; limb oblique, upper lip of 2 suborbicular lobes, 7-10 x 7-9 mm, lower lip 15-20 mm long, lobes oblong-elliptic, 8-11 x 8-10 mm, all lobes pale violet fading to cream at base of lower lip which is marked with 2 elliptical yellow patches that coalesce in the throat and extend along the floor of the tube as a yellow stripe. Stamens arising in upper third of corolla tube, filaments c. 8 mm long, white, twisted, glandular below anthers; anther lobes 1 mm long, white. Ovary c. 15 mm long, purplish, glandular-pilose with occasional acute hairs; style c. 10 mm long, dorsoventrally compressed, glandular-pilose, white; stigma of 2 unequal, papillose lips. Capsule 50-60 mm long, 2 mm in diam., apiculate. Seeds 0.5-0.6 mm long, reticulate.
