Characteristics

Corolla c. 15–30 mm. long, tube whitish often heavily suffused magenta-pink above; limb whitish outside, pale to medium violet or pink inside, white around entire mouth, pilose outside, particularly on tube, with or without gland-tipped hairs, densely glandular inside particularly around mouth; tube c. 5–7 mm. long, subcylindrical, bulbous at base, base c. 3 mm. in diam., bent sharply downwards about the middle, compressed laterally in the throat; throat c. 2 mm. across; limb very oblique, more conspicuous than the tube, upper lip of 2 suborbicular to elliptic-oblong lobes, c. 5–10 × 5–8 mm., lower lip c. 10–20 mm. long, lobes suborbicular to elliptic-oblong, c. 5–12 × 4–12 mm.

Leaves many, oblong, up to 15 × 4 cm., apex withered, base cuneate, both surfaces pilose with silky, silvery appressed hairs, midrib and lateral veins raised below, the lateral veins forking at their apices and closely outlining the deeply and coarsely serrate leaf margin; lamina plicate between the lateral veins.
Ovary 3–5 mm. long, pubescent with spreading hairs, gland-tipped or not; style c. 2 mm. long, terete, strongly curved; stigma capitate, epapillose, jelly-like, capsule 30–40 mm. long, occasionally up to 10 mm. shorter or longer.
Stamens arising in upper third of corolla tube; filaments c. 2 mm. long, tinged pink; anther lobes 1.5 mm. long, blue-black at maturity; staminodes minute.
Calyx divided to the base into 5 linear-lanceolate segments c. 8 × 1 mm., indumentum as on pedicel.
Pedicels c. 8–30 mm. long, green or reddish-brown, pilose or glandular-pilose or mixed.
Inflorescences 1–3 immediately below the leaf base, up to c. 20-flowered.
Peduncles up to c. 15 cm. long, pilose with spreading hairs.
Bracts oblong-elliptic, up to 8 × 2 mm.
Rhizomatous, rosulate, perennial.
Seeds 0.5 mm. long, verruculose.
