Characteristics

Perennial. Leaves 2 or 3, up to 230 x 150 mm, usually prostrate, margin crenate, base cordate, upper surface dark green, lower often suffused purple-red, both surfaces pilose. Inflorescences from base of midrib, up to 36-flowered. Peduncles up to 200 mm long; pedicels c. 9-20 mm long, both pilose with glandular and eglandular hairs. Bracts linear, up to3 x 1 mm. Calyx divided to the base into 5 linear segments, c. 3 x 1 mm. Corolla c. 27 mm long, pale to medium violet, usually pale yellow in throat, patterned with impressed lines, glandular-pilose outside; glandular inside around mouth; tube c. 13 mm long, 2 mm in diam., subcylindric, sharply deflexed then directed forwards, mouth laterally compressed; limb flat, oblique, more conspicuous than the tube, lateral sinuses usually broad; upper lip of 2 oblong to obovate lobes, divergent, 7-11 x 5-6 mm; lower lip 12-18 mm long, 15-27 mm broad; lobes oblong to obovate,6-10 x 4-8 mm. Stamens arising about halfway up corolla tube; filaments2 mm long, slightly curved, glandular; anther lobes 1 mm long, white. Ovary 5 mm long, appressed-pubescent; style terete, 1.5 mm long, pubescent, sparsely glandular; stigma subcapitate. Capsule 18-48(33 ± 5) mm long, 1.5 mm in diam. Seeds 0.5-0.7 mm long, reticulate.
