Perennial herb, terrestrial, 0.05-0.25 m high. Leaves: sometimes more than 1 leaf, long narrow, margins coarsely crenate to dentate, dark green above, reddish purple below, 300 x 130 mm. Inflorescences flowering from apex of stalk and base of midrib, small; pedicels very long, many open together; flowers white, tinged purple. Bracts often reflexed green with prominent red veins below. Calyx 4 x 1 mm. Corolla 20 mm long, sparsely glandular-pilose outside, glabrous inside, long gland-tipped hairs around mouth, white tinged violet with 2 small, raised, yellow keels in throat; keels and throat spotted violet. Stamens white, arising in upper third of corolla tube, curved and swollen below; anthers white. Ovary 5 mm long, densely glandular. Flowering time Oct.-Feb. Fruit a capsule, 13-26 x 2 mm. Seed 0.4-0.5 mm long.
Monocarpic herb, lithophyte or terrestrial, 0.05-0.18 m high. Leaves 1(2), up to 220 x 160 mm, serially developing from top of petiolode, margins crenate, base subcordate, both surfaces green. Inflorescences from base of midrib, up to 30-flowered, many flowers opening together. Calyx 5-8 x 1 mm. Corolla ± 18 mm long, white, glandular outside, glabrous inside. Stamens arising in lower third of tube; filaments toothed or bearded at junction. Ovary 4-5 mm long, pubescent. Flowering time Nov.-Feb. Fruit a capsule, 15-25 x 2 mm, apiculate. Seed 0.5-0.7 mm long.
