Characteristics

Monocarpic, all parts pilose with glandular and eglandular hairs. Leaf1, but often with 1 or 2 further leaves developing serially from the top of the petiolode (stalk) immediately below the primary peduncle, up to 220 x 160 mm, margin crenate, base subcordate, both surfaces green; petiolode up to 40 mm long. Inflorescences from base of midrib, up to c. 30-flowered, many flowers open together. Peduncles up to 120 mm long, but usually short; pedicels 5-10 mm long. Calyx divided to the base into 5 linear segments, 5-8 x 1 mm. Stamens arising in lower third of corolla tube, filaments toothed at junction with connective, or connective bearded with long, jointed hairs, or sometimes both toothed and bearded, 4 mm long, curved and thickened below the anthers; anther lobes 1 mm long; lateral staminodes conspicuous. Ovary 4-5 mm long, pubescent with glandular and eglandular hairs; style dorsoventrally compressed, 3-5 mm long, sparsely pubescent; stigma of 2 unequal reniform, papillose lips.
