Characteristics

Monocarpic. Leaf1, up to 370 x 260 mm, pilose, base cordate, margin crenate, lower surface often beetroot-red. Inflorescences with many flowers open together. Peduncles up to 250 mm; pedicels 10-17 mm, elongating slightly in fruit, both pilose, eglandular. Bracts narrowly elliptic, up to13 x 3 mm. Calyx divided to the base into 5 linear segments, 6 x 1.5mm. Corolla 26-40 mm long, scabridulous outside, tube glabrous inside, limb glandular-pubescent, white or pale violet, always with a violet suffusion in lower part of mouth flanking a conspicuous yellow stripe ex-tending from the base of the lower lip along the floor of the tube; tube cylindric below, narrowly funnel-shaped in upper half, slightly curved,13-20 mm long, 5-6 mm diam. in lower half, c. 10-13 mm across mouth between lateral sinuses; upper lip of 2 ovate lobes, 9 x 8.5 mm, lower lip 11-22 mm long, 25 mm across, lobes suborbicular, 10 x 9 mm. Stamens arising half-way up corolla tube; filaments 6 mm long, white, curved and swollen below the anthers, the swelling yellow, sparsely glandular; anther lobes 1.5 mm long, white, sometimes glandular. Ovary 10 mm long, appressed pubescent, eglandular; style terete, 5 mm long, pubescent, glandular; stigma stomatomorphic. Capsule 44-68(58 ± 5) mm long, 2.5 mm in diam. Seeds 0.7-0.9 mm long, reticulate.
