Characteristics

Perennial. Leaves 2-5, up to 120 x 70 mm, margin crenate, base cordate, upper surface medium green, lower sometimes suffused red, both surfaces pilose. Inflorescences from base of midrib, c. 10-flowered. Peduncles up to 160 mm long; pedicels 8-25 mm long, both sparsely pilose. Calyx divided to the base into 5 linear segments, 4 x 1 mm. Corolla c.32 mm long, pubescent outside, glandular inside around mouth; tube greenish, c. 15 mm long, 2 mm in diam., subcylindric, sharply deflexed then directed forwards, mouth laterally compressed; limb flat, oblique, more conspicuous than the tube, pale violet patterned with impressed lines and 2 small keels running from the base of the anterior lobes into the throat, throat yellow-green; upper lip of 2 oblong to suborbicular lobes, 10 x 7 mm; lower lip c. 18-20 mm long, 25-30 mm broad, lobes oblong to suborbicular, 12 x 10 mm. Stamens arising about halfway up corolla tube, filaments 3 mm long, sparsely glandular, anther lobes 1 mm long, yellow. Ovary 3 mm long, minutely pubescent; style terete, 1.5 mm long, minutely pubescent; stigma conical, 1 mm long, translucent. Capsule 17-54(30 ± 8) mm long, 1.5 mm in diam. Seeds 0.8-0.9 mm long, reticulate.
