Characteristics

Corolla light violet; tube 18–26 mm. long, cylindric, 3–5 mm in diam., 22–36 mm. long, pubescent outside, sometimes wholly white, sometimes the tube and outside of limb whitish, the inner surface of limb light to medium violet, often with slightly darker patches in the throat, occasionally the whole corolla slightly curved towards the top and scarcely widened to the mouth; limb regular, lobes small in relation to tube, more or less spreading, upper two divergent, 2–4 × 2–5 mm., lower lip 5–8 mm. long, lobes 3–6 × 2.5–6 mm., all rounded.

Inflorescence with flowers tending to be massed at one level, eglandular pilose-pubescent, the hairs in the lower part longer and deflexed; peduncles 1–4, up to 150 mm; pedicels up to 20 mm; bracts linear, c.5 mm.
Ovary c. 15 mm. long, green, densely covered with short spreading eglandular hairs, passing into the white 6–7.5 mm. long pubescent style; stigma stomatomorphic, strongly papillose.
Stamens arising in upper third of corolla tube; filaments 4 mm. long, somewhat thickened about the middle, glabrous; anther-lobe c. 0.75 mm., cream tinged mauve.
Leaf solitary, ovate or oblong, usually c. 70–150 × 40–120 mm. but up to 350 × 170 mm., green on both surfaces, shortly pilose.
Calyx divided almost to the base into 5 linear-lanceolate segments 2–3 mm. long, shortly pubescent.
Fruit slender, shortly pubescent, 50–80 mm. long.
Seeds 0.4–0.5 mm. long, reticulate.
