Characteristics

Leaves up to 8 × 2·8 cm. (the uppermost and the lower ones rather smaller), sessile, all similar, elliptic or ovate-elliptic to narrowly elliptic or linear-lanceolate, attenuate or somewhat contracted towards a very acute, frequently subcaudate acumen, entire or minutely denticulate-glandular at the margin, acute or subcontracted at the base, light green, concolorous, rigid in the dry state, with a similar indumentum as on the stem but looser; midrib, lateral nerves and reticulum somewhat raised on both faces but a little more so beneath.

Stems numerous, erect, simple or more of less branched, the branches also erect, densely leafy, with a double indumentum of very short, subpatent whitish hairs and short yellow setae up to 0·5 mm. long with a swollen translucent base and a very thin, glandular, caducous apex.
Styles 3×3·5 mm. long in the brevistylous flowers, with distinctly branched stigmas reaching the middle of the filaments, and 8·5–10 mm. long in the longistylous flowers with shortly branched stigmas exceeding the anthers.
Calyx pubescent and also sparsely glandular-setose; tube 10–13 mm. long, with 5 dense tufts of white hairs inside 4 mm. distant from the base; lobes 10–11 × 1·5–2 mm., oblong, obtuse, with white, membranous margin.
Stamens with c. 10·5 mm. long filaments in the brevistylous flowers and c. 8·5 mm. long filaments in the longistylous ones; anthers 2–2·5 mm. long.
Seeds 3–3·5 mm. long, arcuate-clavate, finally blackish; aril 1/2 as long as to almost equalling the seed.
Capsule 5–7 × 3–4·5 mm., ellipsoid or ovoid, slightly muricate from the persistent bases of the setae.
Flowers heterostylous; pedicels up to 7 mm. long in fruit, erect, subclavate.
Racemes 4–25 cm. long, terminal, with the lower internodes rather elongate.
Petals c. 18 × 10 mm., obovate, bright yellow or orange.
A perennial herb up to 45 cm. high.
