Sepals adnate into a cylindrical tube, 15-nerved, internally hairy for 3–6 mm. from the base and with 5 linear-elliptic tubercles above the insertion of the stamens.
Stamens perigynous, inserted at the base of the calyx-tube; filaments filiform or winged in the lower 1/3; anthers oblong.
Seeds numerous, arcuate, reticulate-alveolate, with 2-pored pits; aril unilateral, shorter than or equalling the seed.
Petals yellow to orange, inserted at the throat of the calyx-tube, obovate to spathulate, without ligules.
Ovary 1-locular, with parietal placentas; styles straight with multipartite or lobulate stigmas.
Flowers hetero-or homostylous, on 2-bracteolate, not deflexed, sometimes accrescent pedicels.
Leaves petiolate or sessile, sometimes heteromorphic, without stipules or basal glands.
Inflorescences axillary, 1-many-flowered, usually a secund raceme with free peduncle.
Annual or perennial herbs, pubescent and setose.
Capsules erect, loculicidal.
