Streptopetalum Hochst.

Genus

Angiosperms > Malpighiales > Passifloraceae

Characteristics

Annual and perennial herbs; pubescent and setiferous. Leaves without glands or stipules. Inflorescences axillary, 1-to many-flowered, usually in a one-sided raceme; bracteoles single or obscure; pedicels sometimes accrescent, not curving. Flowers erect, sometimes heterostylous, hypanthium ± 3 mm. long. Calyx tube hairy within for 3–6 mm. from base, bearing internally 5 large (? glandular) narrowly elliptic tubercles above the insertion of the stamens. Petals yellow or orange, broadly oblanceolate or spathulate, adnate to calyx for more than half the length of the tube (in our species inserted within 1 mm. of opening of the tube, though not known in S. graminifolium), eligulate. Filaments winged, at least in lower third, adnate to calyx for more than 2 mm. (except S. graminifolium). Capsules broadly ellipsoid, sub-ovoid or suborbicular, erect, dehiscing loculicidally from the apex. Seeds numerous, curved; pits 2-pored.
More
