Much branched, fibrous-rooted perennial 4–10 dm; lvs lance-linear, only those of the branches much reduced; heads 1–1.5 cm thick; cor pale blue; fr 5 mm, glabrous, strongly 8-ribbed; cal short, awnless; 2n=20. Native of Europe, occasionally found in fields and waste places from N. Engl. to Pa. June–Sept. (Scabiosa australis; Succisa inflexa)
