Environment

Primary and secondary montane and sub-alpine forest, mossy forest, often common on ridges, or in open fern thickets (Tamrau), on sand or clay, 1500-3300 m, but in kerangas forest in Sarawak at 800 m. Fl. March-Aug. (Sept.-Febr.); fr. Febr.-April, July-Sept.At higher altitude often a dwarf shrub with small leaves, but sometimes also a dwarf shrub with large leaves in high forest.
