Characteristics

A prostrate much branched slightly succulent annual. Stems up to 50 cm long, usually papulose. Leaves petiolate, glistening papulose the blades broadly ovate or orbicular, 0 x 5.2 cm long, 0.5-1 x 8 cm wide, obtuse: petioles 0.4-1.2 cm long. Flowers 1-1.5 mm long, axillary, sessile, in groups of 2-5. Perianth very papulose, the segments 3-4, triangular, subacute, slightly concave inside. Stamens usually as many as and alternate with the perianth, sometimes fewer: anthers small, oval. Ovary projecting as a cone almost as long as the perianth. Styles 2-3, very short. Fruit papulose, obpyramidal, rounded at the base, truncate at the top, 2-4 mm long and wide, with 3-4 projecting ridges forming flat triangular extensions at the top.
