Characteristics

Plant 30-90 cm tall; tufts 0.5-20 cm across at base. Aerial stems to 3 cm long. Leaves 13-55 cm long; lamina flat or complicate, acute, 0.2-1.2 cm wide. Inflorescence spreading-cymose, with 2 or 3 major branches and up to 7 minor branches; lower bracts leaf-like, upper elliptic, acuminate. Perianth segments narrowly elliptic to elliptic, acute to ±retuse, 8-13 mm long, 3-7-nerved, deep blue to white or pale yellow. Filaments 3.5-5.3 mm long; anthers 2-4 mm long before coiling. Ovary 1.5-2 mm long; ovules 4-8 per locule; style 2.8-5.5 mm long. Capsule ±obovoid, triquetrous distally, often oblique, 4-10 mm long, 1.8-4.5 mm wide. Seeds 2.5-3.5 mm long, smooth.
