Thelymitra abrupta R.J.Bates

Leaf 40–100 × c. 2 mm, dull green with pink tints. Flower stem 100–220 × c. 0.8 mm, pink, 1–4-flowered. Sterile bracts 2. Flowers 8–12 mm across, deep blue or purple-blue with dark blue lines and a few relatively large, dark spots on petals and dorsal sepal. Sepals and petals 5–7 × 2.5–3 mm (labellum smallest); sepals externally pink or brown with white edges. Column 4–5 × 2–2.5 mm, white or pale blue; post-anther lobe short, partly hooding anther, dark blue with angular red apex ending abruptly as if cut off; column arms 0.5–0.8 mm long, straight or sharply upcurved; hair-tufts mop-like, sparse, white, hairs c. 0.5 mm long. Anther in middle of column.

Highly restricted; growing in low heathland in moist to wet, sandy or peaty soil around the margins of swamps and peat bogs; mostly seen on firebreaks and along the edges of tracks.
