Leaf 80–300 × 5–10 mm, green, base reddish purple. Flower stem 100–600 × 1–3.5 mm, often reddish purple, 2–12-flowered. Sterile bracts 1–3, usually 2, often reddish purple. Flowers 15–30 mm across, pale blue to dark purplish blue, rarely white, externally mauve or reddish, sweetly scented. Sepals and petals 10–16 × 4–8 mm. Column 4–6.5 × 2.5–3.5 mm, pale blue or pinkish; post-anther lobe 3–4 × 2–2.5 mm, brown with yellow apex, hooded, inflated, shallowly V-notched; column arms converging, 1–1.5 mm long; hair-tufts toothbrush-like, usually white, hairs 0.5–1 mm long.
