Leaf 150–350 × 5–12 mm, leathery, dark green, base purplish. Flower stem 300–500 × 2–3 mm, 2–16-flowered. Sterile bracts usually 2. Flowers 15–26 mm across, moderately dark blue with darker veins. Sepals and petals 10–13 × 3–8 mm. Column 5.5–7 × 2.5–3.5 mm, mostly pale blue; post-anther lobe 3–4 × 1.5–2.5 mm, glossy black with narrow, yellow to cream apex (less commonly brown or bluish and yellow), curved through 90º, tubular, inflated, hooded, notched; column arms parallel, 1.3–1.5 mm long, bent up near middle; hair-tufts mop-like, white, hairs 1.2–1.6 mm long.
