Leaf 100–200 × 3–8 mm, strongly ribbed, often pale green. Sterile bracts 2. Flower stem 200–500 × 3–6 mm, greenish, 1–8-flowered in a loose raceme. Flowers 15–35 mm across, internally pale blue to deep blue with lilac tinge, often with darker veins, externally reddish brown. Sepals and petals 10–20 × 7–9 mm, concave; labellum about as wide as petals. Column 4.5–5.5 × 2–3 mm, blue with a prominent yellow crest; post-anther lobe short, not hooded, upper part with narrow, dark collar, apex densely covered with short, finger-like, yellow papillae; column arms projecting; hair-tufts mop-like, often sparse, hairs white, pink or lilac.
