Leaf ovate-lanceolate, 50–150 × 10–45 mm, pale green, smooth or shallowly ribbed, base with maroon stripes and suffusions. Flower stem 200–650 × 3–6 mm, 2–25-flowered. Flowers 30–45 mm across, usually brilliant sky blue, occasionally pale blue. Sepals and petals 15–22 × 6–10 mm, flat or concave; labellum obviously narrower than other segments. Column 4–5 × 2.5 mm, blue or dark purple with speckled, blackish and yellow crested apex; post-anther lobe short, not hooding the anther, upper part with broad, dark collar, apex densely covered with numerous short, black and orange or yellow, finger-like papillae; column arms projecting forwards; hair tufts mop-like, hairs lilac to purple.
Widespread and common; growing among granite in Darling Range and in coastal and near-coastal jarrah forest and woodland in freely draining, sandy soil and clay loam; occurs occasionally in wetter, swampy sites.
