Plants clumping. Leaf 50–220 × 2.5–10 mm, fleshy, dark green, base purplish. Flower stem 100–300 × 1–2.5 mm, 1–8-flowered. Sterile bract usually 1. Flowers 13–20 mm across, usually pale blue or pale purplish blue, occasionally pink or white. Sepals and petals 5–11 × 3–6 mm. Column 4–6 × 2–3 mm, pale pink to pale purple; post-anther lobe 2–3 × 1.5–2 mm, dark brown to black with yellow apex, gently curved, tubular, thickened; column arms converging, c. 1 mm long, bent upwards near middle; hair-tufts toothbrush-like, white, hairs 0.6–1 mm long, embracing apex of post-anther lobe.
