Characteristics

Leaf ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 50–150 × 10–30 mm, leathery, bright green to yellowish green, often withered at flowering time. Flower stem 150–450 × 3–5 mm, green, 2–25-flowered. Sterile bracts 2 or 3. Flowers 20–40 mm across, brown or purplish brown with irregular greenish or yellowish streaks, spots and blotches, externally brown with a green median line. Sepals and petals 8–20 × 3–6 mm, labellum narrowest. Column 6–9 × 4–6 mm, pale yellow or whitish, often spotted or blotched, very broadly winged, wings spreading like a mantle, pale yellow, margins deeply fringed or toothed (teeth to 2 mm long); post-anther lobe with dense dorsal patch of globose to linear white papillae; supra-anther lobe 2–3.5 × 1 mm, cream to whitish, with narrow, projecting, chisel-like apex; lateral lobes 1.5–2 mm long, finger-like, cream. Anther near column base, with curved beak-like bulbous appendage 2–3 mm long.
