Characteristics

Plants forming dense clumps. Leaf 50–120 × 8–10 mm, dark green to yellowish with purplish base. Flower stem 10–200 × 2–2.5 mm, purplish, often powdery, 1–6-flowered. Sterile bracts 2 or 3. Flowers 22–40 mm across, dark violet blue to purple with darker veins. Sepals and petals 15–20 × 5–6.5 mm, sharply pointed. Column often leaning backwards, 6–7 × 2.8–3.5 mm, pink, bluish or brownish; post-anther lobe 2–2.2 × 2–2.3 mm, erect, hooding anther, brownish with dark brown or blackish collar, base narrow, apex expanded, yellow, shallowly notched; column arms obliquely erect, 1.2–1.4 mm long, curved; hair-tufts toothbrush-like, white, with hairs c. 1 mm long.
